MAKE A REFERRAL

You don’t have to figure out the next step alone.

Whether you are a parent, guardian, caseworker, or professional looking for the right next for a girl in your care, we’re here to walk through it with you.

COULD HANNAH’S HOUSE BE THE RIGHT FIT?

Every young woman who comes to us has a different story. Before anything else, we want to understand hers.

HANNAH’S HOUSE MAY BE A FIT FOR HER IF…

  • She is a biological female between the ages of 12 to 18.
  • She has experienced or is suspected of experiencing domestic minor sexual trafficking
  • She is able to participate in a voluntary residential treatment program
  • She is willing to engage in the healing and treatment process
  • Her current needs can be safely supported within the level of care Hannah’s House provides.

Not sure if her story fits neatly into these words? That’s okay. Start the conversation with us.

SOME NEEDS REQUIRE A DIFFERENT LEVEL OF CARE.

Hannah’s House may not be the appropriate level of care when a young woman is currently experiencing:

  • Active suicidal or homicidal behavior requiring a higher level of supervision or stabilization

  • Significant physical aggression or violence that cannot be safely managed in our setting

  • Active recruitment or exploitation of other youth

  • Fire-setting or arson behaviors

  • Repeated or high-risk elopement behaviors that require a secure setting

  • Needs requiring a locked or higher-acuity treatment environment

Every referral is reviewed individually, and we encourage you to reach out if you’re unsure.

THE REFERRAL PROCESS

What happens after you reach out?

No two referrals look exactly the same. We’ll walk you through each step, from the first conversation to determining whether Hannah’s House is the right next step for her.

01

START THE CONVERSATION

Begin by completing our referral form and sharing what you can about the young woman, her current circumstances, and what has led you to Hannah’s House. You don’t need to have every detail figured out before reaching out.

02

HELP US GET TO KNOW HER

From there, our team will gather records, ask additional questions, and connect with the adults involved in her care. We want to understand more than what is written on a referral form, including her history, current needs, strengths, and the people who know her best.

03

LET HER GET TO KNOW US

If Hannah’s House appears to be a potential fit, we want her to be part of the conversation too. She’ll have an opportunity to meet our team, learn what everyday life at Hannah’s House looks like, ask questions, and decide whether she is willing to take the next step.

04

PLAN THE NEXT STEP

If everyone agrees that Hannah’s House is the right fit, we’ll work through what needs to happen before admission. This may include funding or insurance, necessary approvals, interstate coordination when applicable, final paperwork, and planning for her arrival. We’ll walk through those pieces with you so you know what comes next.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE KNOW EVERYTHING YET.

You can start before you have all the answers.

Sometimes the first step is simply telling us about her. If you’re wondering whether Hannah’s House could be part of her next chapter, reach out. We’ll help you determine what comes next.

FUNDING & PLACEMENT

Don’t let the financial piece stop you from reaching out.

Funding looks different for every young woman. Our team will work with families, agencies, insurance providers, and other funding sources to explore available options and determine what may be possible. You do not need to have funding figured out before beginning a referral.

BEFORE YOU REFER

A few things you may be wondering.

Who can make a referral to Hannah's House?

A referral can come from a parent or guardian, child welfare agency, caseworker, advocate, law enforcement professional, treatment provider, or another professional involved in the young woman’s care.

Do we need to have a confirmed trafficking history before making a referral?

It is highly recommended that a young woman’s trafficking history be confirmed by law enforcement. If trafficking is suspected but has not yet been confirmed, you are still welcome to contact our team to discuss the situation and determine what next steps may be appropriate.

Is participation in faith studies or church attendance required?

No. Hannah’s House is a faith-based program, and our Christian faith is woven into the heart of who we are, but participation in Bible studies, church services, or other faith-based studies is never required. We welcome girls regardless of their personal beliefs and respect each resident’s choice when it comes to participating in spiritual activities.

Do you accept referrals from outside of Delaware?

Yes. Hannah’s House accepts referrals from across the United States. For out-of-state placements, our team will help coordinate the additional requirements that may be needed, including the ICPC process.

Is participation at Hannah's House voluntary?

Yes. Hannah’s House is a voluntary treatment program. A young woman must be willing to participate in the program and engage in the treatment process. As part of the referral processm she will have an opportunity to meet our team, learn more about life at Hannah’s House, and ask questions before moving forward.

How long does the referral and admissions process take?

The timeline varies depending on the young woman’s circumstances and what is needed to move forward. Gathering records, completing interviews, securing funding or insurance authorization, coordinating interstate requirements when applicable, and determining an appropriate admission date can all affect timing. Our team will keep you informed throughout the process and work to move things forward as efficiently as possible.

What if I'm not sure Hannah's House is the right level of care?

That’s okay. You do not have to determine that on your own before reaching out. Share what you know with our admissions team, and we’ll review the young woman’s history, current needs, and circumstances with you to determine whether Hannah’s House may be an appropriate fit.

READY WHEN YOU ARE.

Start the conversation. We’ll take it from there together.
