Equine Mentorship

Crystal Peaks Model

Who is this for?

This program is for 12-17 yr. olds, who have come from difficult circumstances. This model is one where relationship is established between the session leader, the teen, and the horse.  When a teen comes to us, he or she will be paired with the same session leader (and most likely the same horse) once a week for 8 weeks. This will produce consistency, which we believe will provide a space of safety and trust.

What does it entail?

Every 75 minute session will incorporate chores, such as mucking stalls, grooming horses, and sweeping the barn, followed by an activity, which may include painting a horse, crafts, walking a horse, and even riding at some point.  All of these activities serve to facilitate conversation and a growing relationship.  In addition, each week a different human trafficking aspect will be discussed as part of our preventive education efforts.
